THE CARCASS CONNECTION: as of 1998

According to the 1995 National Beef Quality Audit, we need to produce 6% more prime cattle and 10% more average choice product that meets CAB specifications in order to meet present and future demands for domestic and export trades.

Nine years of evaluating carcass data from our cooperating herds, prove that we can consistantly produce higher quality products. It also shows us that it costs no more to produce a high quality product than a low one.

THE NEXT STEP - GETTING PAID FOR IT

Farmland Industries has introduced a value based marketing system that will pay producers on an individual carcass value equation rather than on pen averages. For an example of how this alliance works, we had Farmland apply their formula to the progeny of Gardens Prime Time that were tested for Green Garden. The added carcass value that we have been working on for the last eight years shows up in this evaluation. We realize that results will vary under different environmental conditions, managements practices, and the genetic compostions of individual cow herds, but the exciting thing is that over a relatively short period of time we can make major improvements in the composition of the final products that we produce and get paid for it.
